Police are searching for an armed robber who stole cash from the poker room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa.

Friday night’s attempted robbery of the Bellagio poker room ended with a shootout between police and the alleged thief as he attempted to steal a getaway car. After being hit in the exchange, the robber was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the suspect has died as a result of his injuries. In a bizarre twist, however, investigators are now trying to determine if the deceased robber is the very same man who got away with stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the Bellagio back in November of 2017.

The robbery happened Friday shortly after 1 a.m. In the casino's poker room, on the second floor. The man waved a gun at an employee handling cash and demanded the money, Bitner said. Authorities say the three masked men entered Momo's Poker Room, 5841 Telegraph Road, about 1 a.m. On April 1, announced the robbery and ordered everyone in the room to lay face down on the floor. Three men, including two Dearborn Heights residents, are facing charges brought against them in connection to an armed robbery that occurred April 1 at a packed poker tournament for charity.

The two heists had remarkably similar strategies, with both involving an armed man targeting the Bellagio poker room cage and the casino’s north valet entrance. Detectives now have to determine if the most recent attempt was a copy cat or the original bandit looking for a repeat score.

The second robbery may have gone smoother for the criminal had there not already been a heavy police presence at Bellagio at the time. Undersheriff Kevin McMahill told ABC News that officers were already on site trying to locate a missing child when they saw the theft taking place on surveillance video.

The suspect’s identity is being withheld by the Clark County coroner until relatives have been notified.

Last Thursday, Momo’s Poker Room in Michigan played host to a charity poker tournament, and the popular venue was “packed full” of customers, too, when at 1am the following morning two masked gunmen entered the room, ordered everyone face-down on the floor, and proceeded to rob the casino, as well as its patrons.
Luckily, no one was injured during the hold-up, but the robbers still managed to escape with more than $1,000 before police officers arrived on the scene. The shocking incident occurred in the early hours of April Fool’s Day, and one of the victims said that at first he thought somehow the incident may have been a seasonal joke.
The same victim, a licensed gun owner, said once he realized the seriousness of the situation that he thought about ‘taking them out’, but decided against such action as he was concerned about the possibility of causing collateral damage.
Local authorities are now appealing to anyone with information to contact Taylor Police on 734-287-6611. Explaining what is known already, Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said that one of the robbers was stocky with reddish hair, while the other was heavy-set with a brown, receding hairline and a beard. Elaborating further on the incident, Sclabassi stated:
“Witnesses told police that two white males had been playing at the poker table. At some point, they left and returned wearing masks and brandishing handguns. They demanded everyone on the floor and proceeded to rob the group of the cash drawer as well as cash from the patrons.”
Momo’s Poker Room is located in the city of Taylor in Wayne County, Michigan, which has a population of less than 70,000 people. Throughout the year, the poker room holds regular poker tournaments to benefit local charities, which on its website it promotes as “BIG tournaments, GREAT payouts, LIVE action cash!”.
